- DOLMATOVSKI, YEVGENI ARONOVICH (1915–1994), Soviet poet and songwriter. Dolmatovski became known during World War II for his collections of patriotic verse, such as Pesnya o Dnepre ("Song of the Dnieper," 1942), and later wrote successful songs for postwar patriotic motion pictures. His other works include Sozvezdiye ("Constellation," 1947), praising the 16 republics of the U.S.S.R.; the anti-Western Slovo o zavtrashnem dne ("A Word about Tomorrow," 1949), which won the 1950 Stalin Prize; and Iz zhizni poezii ("From the Life of Poetry," 1965). Dolmatovski signed the 1970 manifesto opposing Jewish emigration from the Soviet Union.
